'Set on an abandoned planet in the outer rim of the galaxy, the story is partly told through Aila's eyes, a renowned smuggler who is currently imprisoned by a rival mercenary. As she awakes, she is surprised to find herself encased in the mercenary's holding pod while the Scarab plummets in a critical condition. The sequence ends with Aila surviving the crash, and evidence of the mercenary being violently removed from the ship...'
To create the game cinematic I first built the surrounding environment in UE4 using purchased assets, before using unreal's sequencer to animate and capture the short. The aim was to tell a short story in an opening sequence to a dark fantasy sci-fi game, leaving the ending ambiguous for a horror themed beginning.
The Scarab is heavily inspired by Dead Space and the Alien series, specifically Alien 1979 and Prometheus.
